Franklin Dexter, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Dexter is a University of Iowa Professor and the Director of the Division of Management Consulting. He has developed most of the statistical methods for OR productivity analysis and has published more than 175 papers and consulted with more than 60 surgical facilities. His findings indicate that SRI Surgical can offer hospitals distinct efficiency advantages.

  • If a hospital has more than 8 hrs of cases and turnover time in ORs, reducing turnover times can increase OR efficiency.
  • If mean turnover time is long (more than 15 minutes), there are many turnovers per OR, or variability in workload exists from week to week, there are opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • A reduction in turnover times can allow some surgeons to schedule additional cases, which can contribute to your facility receiving preferred status.

SRI Surgical specializes in ways to reduce prolonged turnovers, which include having sufficient equipment on site to do all cases for the day without reprocessing, enhancing equipment availability, functionality and standardization, and reducing scheduled delays between cases.
