Rex Healthcare was faced with the challenge of enhancing the quality of patient care and improving financial performance.  Physician satisfaction was low, there was a shortage of nurses, and surgical procedures were taking much longer to complete. Central Processing presented an even greater problem. The workload had grown from 400 cases a month in 1980 to 2,200 cases a month in 2002 without any significant changes.
